Look at the pattern, not one handful
A small amount of debris in a gutter does not automatically mean the roof has failed. More concerning patterns include visibly bare patches, widespread surface erosion or granule loss paired with cracking and curling.
Age and weather both matter
Sun exposure, foot traffic, hail or other impact and ordinary aging can all affect granule retention. A roofer can compare the affected area with the rest of the roof.
